Privacy Policy
Effective [EFFECTIVE DATE]
Wyn ("Wyn," "we," "us") is an app for keeping score on friendly challenges between friends, operated by [OPERATOR]. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and how to delete it. We do not sell your personal information, we do not show ads, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
1. Information you give us
- Account details: your email address and password (the password is handled by our sign-in provider; we never see it), or your name and email from Sign in with Apple or Google. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we receive only Apple's relay address.
- Profile: username, display name, and optionally your full name, bio, and profile photo.
- Challenges: challenges you host or join, the sides or outcomes you pick, results, scores, round-by-round scores, and votes.
- Stakes and settlements: the stake you agree on for a challenge, which can be a dollar amount, a task, a favor, or anything else you type, plus Wyn's record of who owes what to whom afterwards, whether it has been marked settled, and any proof photo and note you add when you settle up.
- Content you post: photos and videos, feed posts and captions, comments, reactions, and messages in challenge and group chats.
- Social connections: people you follow, your friends, and the crews and groups you join.
- Skill ratings: ratings you enter yourself, such as a golf handicap index, a tennis rating, or a chess rating.
- Text you give the AI features: only when you choose to use one (section 4).
- Reports: if you report something, the reason and any note you add.
- Messages to us: anything you send to [CONTACT EMAIL].
2. Information collected automatically
- Push notification token: only if you allow notifications, so we can send them to your device.
- Usage counts: counts of how often you use AI features each day, to enforce daily limits, and which posts you've viewed, to show view counts.
- Technical logs: our hosting providers automatically record basic request data such as IP address, device type, and time, for security and troubleshooting.
- Crash reports: if the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a report so we can fix it: what went wrong in the app's code, your device model, operating system and app version, and your Wyn user ID. It doesn't include your name, email, IP address, messages or photos.
We do not collect your precise location, your contacts, your browsing history, or your advertising ID. We never process payments or handle money: Wyn doesn't take your card or bank details. It only records the amounts people agree to, and any payment happens outside the app.
Camera and photos: we use your camera only when you scan a QR code or take a photo, and your photo library only when you pick media to attach or save an image (such as a receipt) to your library. We receive only the photos and videos you choose to upload.
3. How we use your information
- To run Wyn: create your account, run challenges, calculate standings, odds and results, track who owes what, and deliver posts and messages.
- To show your activity to the people you play with and follow (section 5).
- To send notifications you've allowed. You can turn each type off in Profile.
- To keep Wyn safe: prevent abuse and fake accounts, enforce our Terms, review reports, and apply blocks.
- To fix bugs and improve features.
- To respond to you and meet legal obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. AI features
Some features use artificial intelligence: drafting a challenge from a description, suggesting a title, suggesting challenge or forfeit ideas, drafting a custom preset, and reading a score you type in plain English. They run only when you tap to use them, and we ask for your permission the first time you use one. You can withdraw that permission at any time in Profile.
When you use one, we send the following to our AI provider, currently Google (the Gemini API, a paid service that doesn't use these requests to train its models). If Google is unavailable, the request goes to our backup provider, Groq, Inc., instead:
- The text you typed, and the details of the challenge you're setting up, such as the activity, the stake, and the names of the sides or outcomes. These names are often people's names, including other participants'.
- For live score entry, the display names of the players in that challenge, so the AI can match scores to people.
- For drafting, a short summary of your own play: the activities you play most, your own skill ratings, and the stake units you usually use.
We do not send your email, account ID, photos, or anyone's profile beyond the names above. The providers process this only to return a result to you. AI suggestions can be wrong; nothing is saved until you review and confirm it. If we change AI providers, we will update this section first.
5. Who can see your information
- Anyone using Wyn can see your profile: username, display name, full name, bio, profile photo, follower counts, and the public challenges you host.
- Posts are visible to everyone if you make them public, or only to your friends if you choose friends-only. A post shared from a challenge is also visible to that challenge's participants.
- Challenge participants can see your picks, scores, results, the stake, who owes whom, settle-up proof, and messages in that challenge's chat. Group members can see the group chat.
- Your win/loss record is visible to your friends. Your stats appear on the global leaderboard only if you opt in in Profile.
- Blocking: if you block someone, or they block you, neither of you sees the other's posts, comments, reactions, or chat messages, you stop following each other, and you can't find each other in search. You both stay in any challenge you're already in together, so it can still be settled. They aren't told you blocked them.
- Reports are not shown to the person you report.
Anything you share with other users can be screenshotted or saved by them; we can't control that.
6. Service providers we share with
We share information only with companies that help us run Wyn, and only for that purpose:
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in, file storage, and server functions |
| Vercel | Hosts the Wyn website, including challenge invite links |
| Expo and Apple | Deliver push notifications |
| Apple and Google | Sign in with Apple and Google, if you choose them |
| Processes AI feature requests through the Gemini API (section 4) | |
| Groq | Backup provider for AI feature requests when Google is unavailable (section 4) |
| Resend | Emails reports to our moderators, including the reported content and the usernames involved |
| Sentry | Receives crash and error reports (section 2) |
We may also disclose information if required by law or valid legal process, to protect the safety of any person, to investigate violations of our Terms, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. If that happens, we'll notify you and this policy will continue to apply.
7. Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in Profile → Delete my account. Deletion is immediate and can't be undone, and it never depends on settling a challenge first.
When you delete your account:
- Deleted: your login, email, and Apple or Google sign-in link; your name, username, bio, and profile photo; your posts, photos, videos, comments, reactions, and chat messages; settle-up proof photos you uploaded; your follows, friendships, crew memberships, and blocks; your skill ratings, custom presets, notifications, and push tokens.
- Kept, without your name: challenges you took part in stay in the other participants' history, including results and records of who owed what, and you appear as "Deleted user." Open challenges you were hosting are deleted.
- Kept for safety: reports you filed or that were filed about your content, and, for guest accounts created before Wyn required sign-up, the record that a device had a guest account.
Copies may remain in encrypted backups for up to 30 days. We keep information longer only if the law requires it.
Signing out does not delete your account. To request deletion without using the app, email us from the address on your account. If you still have a guest account from an earlier version of Wyn, signing up keeps its challenges; to have it deleted instead, email [CONTACT EMAIL].
8. Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Database security rules limit each user to what they're allowed to see, and uploaded media is stored privately and served through short-lived links. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we'll notify you as the law requires.
9. Age requirement
Wyn is only for people 18 and older, and we ask you to confirm your age before you use it. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 is using Wyn, contact [CONTACT EMAIL] and we'll delete the account.
10. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete your information by emailing [CONTACT EMAIL]. You can also edit your profile and delete your account yourself in the app. We'll respond within 30 days (45 where the law allows), and we won't treat you differently for asking.
- California and other US states with privacy laws: we do not sell or share personal information, and we don't use sensitive information to infer characteristics about you. You may appeal a denied request by replying to our response.
- EEA, UK, and Switzerland: we process your information to provide the service you asked for (contract), to keep Wyn safe and improve it (legitimate interests), with your consent (notifications and AI features, which you can withdraw at any time), and to meet legal obligations. Your information is processed in the United States. You may complain to your local data protection authority.
11. Changes
If we make material changes, we'll ask you to review and accept the new version in the app before you continue, and we'll update the effective date above.
